After School Explorers set for summer programming in Preston County

KINGWOOD — After School Explorers, in conjunction with Preston County Schools, is offering a host of free summer opportunities.
Starting June 10 Learning in Motion (LIM) will travel across the county to bring learning, literacy and lunch to families. LIM will be on the road Monday through Thursday the weeks of June 10 and 24, and July 8 and 22.
Starting on Monday LIM will be at: Aurora Memorial Building, 8-10:30 a.m.; Terra Alta Community Park, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. On Tuesday June 11, 25, July 9 and 23 LIM will be at Brighter Day Church in the Fellowsville area 8-10:30 a.m. and at the Rowlesburg Community Park 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On June 12 and 26, and July 10 and 24, LIM will be at Reedsville Mill Chapel Church 8-10:30 a.m. and at the Kingwood Pool Pavilion 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. On June 13 and 27, and July 11 and 25, LIM will be at the Bruceton Fire Hall 8-10:30 a.m.

After School Explorers will host the Aurora School Summer Library program 10 a.m.-noon June 11, 18 and 25, and July 2, 9 and 16.

After School Explorers is teaming with Friends of the Cheat to offer a STREAM camp 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. rain or shine at the Friends of Cheat outdoor classroom in Albright. Camp dates include June 4-6, June 18-20, July 16-18, July 30-31 and Aug. 1.

Campers will learn about healthy rivers, and the plants and wildlife that call the Cheat home. Each Thursday will feature a field trip. Students must attend Tuesday and Wednesday to go on the Thursday trip. Enrollment is limited to 32. ASE students will be given preference. Busing will be available depending on need and ridership. Pack a lunch.
Starting June 24 After School Explorers will team with WVU Extension to offer Energy Express at Kingwood Elementary through July 26. Space is limited. To register call David Hartley, 304-329-1391.

South Preston School will feature Zero Robotics, a NASA coding adventure. Students will compete in an international competition to write the best code to move spheres on the International Space Station.
For those familiar with scratch coding, this is the next generation of coding development. When students need a break from computer coding, they will work in the school garden.
The Zero Robotics program will start July 8 and runs to Aug. 7. The program will be 8 a.m.-1 p.m. July 8- 10, July 15-17, July 22- 24, July 29-31 and Aug. 5-7. There will be a field trip 3-7 p.m. July 13 to the Fairmont State STEM. The International Competition will be Aug. 9 on the campus of Fairmont State.

ASE Bruceton Camp Bulldog will be 9 a.m.-noon June 24-27. Those attending all four days of the camp can go on a special field trip to Big Bear Lake.

ASE will host Preston High Freshmen Camp 8 a.m.-3 p.m. July 22-26. The camp welcomes freshmen into the Preston High family. Students will learn about classes, the facility, networking and more. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. There will be shuttle buses from across the county. To register contact Carol Riley or Stormy Matlick at 304-329-0400.
ASE will feature several gardening programs across the county. Explorers will spend time at the school having fun and while learning and working in the school garden.

Fellowsville Elementary will meet 3-5 p.m. June 12, 19 and 26; and July 10, 17, 24 and 31. Kingwood Elementary will meet 12:30-2:30 p.m. June 17 and 24; and July 1, 8, 15 and 22.

Rowlesburg School will meet 9:30-11:30 a.m. June 11, 18 and 25; and July 9, 16, 23 and 30. The gardening program ends in time for students to also attend Learning in Motion 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park.

Terra Alta East Preston School will meet noon-3 p.m. June 10-12 and 17-18; and July 1, 8-9, 15 and 17. West Preston will meet 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 4, 11, 18 and 25; and July 2, 9, 16 and 23

There will be a high tunnel gardening program with Central Preston Middle School in conjunction with AmeriCorps members on weeks opposite the Learning in Motion schedule. The schedule will be announced later.
