William Cheuvront

William “Bill” Randolph Cheuvront, 91, of Mannington, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Veterans Administration Healthcare System, in Pittsburgh.   Bill was born in Fairmont, on November 8, 1927, a son of the late Raleigh R. Cheuvront and Hazel M. (Goodwin) Cheuvront.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and the Merchant Marines.  He was employed for more than 40 years with the B & O Railroad, retiring as a Brakeman. He was a longtime and active member of the Mannington Church of Christ. He was a life-time member of the Greene County (Pennsylvania) Coon Hunters Association and was inducted into the Green County Coon Hunters Association Hall of Fame.  He was also an accomplished yodeler. Bill also enjoyed attending the Sage Brush Round-up.
He is survived by three daughters, Louise Byers and her husband Richard, of Mannington, Rita Laishley and her husband George, of Morgantown, and Nancy Phillips and her husband Ronnie, of Morgantown; daughter-in-law, Diana Kuhn; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Church, Jodie Oesterheld, Melissa Cooke, David Laishley, Ryan Phillips, Cheri Kerkowski, Scott Phillips, Lisa Johnson, and James Kuhn; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jenna Phillips, Trevor Cooke, Cameron Oesterheld, Daniel Church, Thomas, Hanna and Holly Kerkowski, and Hope and Samantha Johnson. Also surviving are two of his brothers, Carl “Peanuts” Cheuvront and his wife Lee, of Fairmont, and Dale E. Cheuvront, also of Fairmont;  one sister, Judy Littleton, of Fairmont; and several nieces, nephews, and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane (Gump) Cheuvront; a step-son, Daniel Kuhn, Jr.; a step-daughter, Janet I. Kuhn Fridley; three brothers, Robert Grady Cheuvront, Olan Richard Cheuvront, and John Delbert Cheuvront; and four sisters, Helen Preston, Mildred Brode, Ruby Cheuvront, and Rita Davis.
Family and friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, from 1 – 8 p.m.  on Sunday , May 19,  and from 10 a.m. on Monday, until the  funeral service at 11 a.m.  with Evangelist Michael Reese officiating.  Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
