MORGANTOWN — The Jenny Wilson Trio will perform a jazz concert, “Sound Color Words,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC). Made up of Jenny Wilson on piano and vocals, Nathan Wilson on bass, and Evan Lintz on drums, the area trio will be accompanied by West Virginia poet laureate Marc Harshman. The concert will be in the Tanner Theatre.
During their concert, the artists will explore connecting words and music in an improvised performance of music and poetry. There will also be live painting by Jenny Wilson and Cheryl Ryan of Wheeling.
The musicians connected with West Virginia Poet Laureate at a concert they gave at Arts Mon last year and decided to plan another presentation.
Jenny Wilson and her family band, husband Nathan Wilson and son Evan Lintz, have been performing and recording together for almost a decade.
Nathan is a member of the touring group Squonk and Evan is a drummer and DJ in the Baltimore area. Jenny has been making forays into painting and has won several awards in West Virginia and has been invited to show her work in Florida, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
Harshman, of Wheeling, has just been named co-winner of the 2019 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award. Appointed in 2012, he is the seventh poet laureate of West Virginia.
Tickets are now available for this one-night event for $15 for general admission, $10 for
students.
