MORGANTOWN — Two Pittsburgh women are being charged with attempted kidnapping after allegedly breaking into a home and attacking a pregnant woman Saturday night, according to Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston.
Officers from the Morgantown Police Department responded to a reported disturbance in the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue about 11:15 p.m. A pregnant woman told the officers two women and a 6-year-old child came to her house, kicked the front door in and attacked her, Preston said. The victim was able to identify both suspects.
Dominique Peebles, 29, is charged with burglary and attempted kidnapping. Sylvia Louis Thornton, 29, is charged with attempted kidnapping and conspiracy.
The victim tried to call 911, but Peebles and Thornton took her cell phone while they went through the house to the bedroom and began throwing clothes and personal items of the victim’s boyfriend out the window. The boyfriend was in a relationship with one of the suspects, Preston said.
Peebles took a 2-year-old child the victim was holding, knocking the victim to the ground in the struggle, Preston said. Both women then kicked the victim in the head and body. Thornton then took the 2-year-old while Peebles kept attacking the victim.
The victim’s dog then came into the room and attacked Peebles. The two attackers then secured the 6-year-old they brought and left after the dog defended its family, Preston said.
Thornton and Peebles left in a blue Mercury Mountaineer with an open door at a “high rate of speed,” Preston said.
An ambulance was called because of the attack and the victim’s pregnancy, Preston said.
The two suspects were found in Pittsburgh, where Peebles was seeking medical care for the injuries she sustained during the incident.
Both women have been detained by the Pittsburgh Police and are being held pending extradition, Preston said.
