MORGANTOWN — As two future West Virginia basketball players demonstrated their talents in Morgantown on Sunday, a third committed to team up with them.
Sean McNeil, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, committed to West Virginia on Sunday. Fellow future Mountaineers Oscar Tshiebwe and Miles McBride happened to be in town earlier in the day playing in the Scott Brown Classic.
McNeil brings an outside shooting touch to a team in desperate need of it. West Virginia ranked dead last in the Big 12 and 302nd nationally in 3-point shooting this season, making only 31.6 percent of its outside shots. McNeil, who averaged 29.7 points per game at Sinclair, shot 43 percent from 3-point range. McNeil also proved a strong rebounder for his position, finishing second on his team with 6.1 boards per game.
McNeil has three years of eligibility remaining. He selected West Virginia over Dayton, Ole Miss and Western Kentucky. McNeil is originally from Union, Ky.
The Mountaineers have three scholarships remaining, though that number climbs to four if Sagaba Konate follows through and declares for the NBA Draft after receiving his assessment at the scouting combine.
