Employee cuts hair for breast cancer awareness

MORGANTOWN — Bonnie’s Bus will get a boost from Sportsman’s Warehouse for the second year.
“Last year, we were getting our feet wet,” said the store’s office manager Melody George. “This year, it’s a lot bigger and better.”
She’s referring to the Ladies’ Night benefit the 5200 Gateway Drive business held Thursday evening.
Area vendors were on hand, and there were games and plenty of giveaways.
“Local businesses this year have been a huge help, donating lots of prizes for us to raffle off,” George said, adding about 40 contributed.
Among the prizes were a two-night stay at a West Virginia campground, a bench and handcrafted, wooden kitchen tools.
A representative from Bonnie’s Bus was also available to discuss the importance of mammograms. The mobile mammography unit travels across the state, offering breast cancer screening.
Last year, the store raised about $1,000 for the WVU program. This time around, the goal is $3,500.
“We chose Bonnie’s Bus because it goes to all of West Virginia,” George said. “It’s a good program and extremely important.”
One of the store’s associates felt so moved by the cause that he shaved off his beard and hair, which he’s been growing for several years, to celebrate the store reaching its goal. The hair from his head will be donated to Locks of Love.
“It is great seeing our community come together for such a great cause,” George said.
