CORVALIS, Ore. — West Virginia lefthander Jackson Wolf yielded only five hits over seven innings against the defending national champions.
But three of those left the yard, and No. 6 Oregon State clinched the weekend series with a 4-2 win Saturday.
Beau Phillip homered twice and Adley Rutschman added a solo shot for the Beavers (10-0), who go for the sweep Sunday.
Phillip’s two-run blast in the fourth put Oregon State ahead 3-2. It came after Wolfe walked Rutschman on four pitches to open the inning.
T.J. Lake ripped a two-run double for WVU (5-5) in the fourth, but the Mountaineers were 0-for-10 otherwise with runners in scoring position.
In a 91-pitch outing, Wolfe (2-1) was charged with four runs while striking out three and walking one.
Oregon State’s Bryce Fehmel (2-0) scattered four hits over six innings and improved his career record to 28-5.
Christian Chamberlain earned his first save with two spotless innings.
