A sampling of bills introduced Jan. 28 and 29

CHARLESTON — Here is a sampling of bills introduced Jan. 28 and 29. The governor’s pay raise bill is among them. Monongalia-Preston-Marion-area lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

Jan. 29

SB 454, to exempt school children from vaccinations based on medical reasons, religious beliefs or personal objections. Sen. Dave Sypolt, R-Preston, co-sponsor.

SB 458, to increase penalties for vehicles driving slow in the passing lane or for overtaking a vehicle or turning or making a lane change without giving a signal. Sen. Charles Clements, R-Wetzel, lead sponsor.

SB 465, to exempt nonpaid volunteers at a volunteer fire department or emergency medical service organization who volunteer for fundraising or other administrative capacity from Workers Compensation benefits. Sypolt, lead sponsor; Clements, Sens. Mike Maroney, R-Marshall, Randy Smith, R-Tucker, co-sponsors.

HB 2710, to prohibit manufacturing facilities from locating within two miles of a school. Delegate Rodney Pyles, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor.

HB 2712, an annual bill to reinstate the death penalty for first-degree murder.

Jan. 28

SB 440, to extend anti-hazing law to student organizations whose members include any higher education students. To address WVU’s situation where five fraternities dissociated and formed their own counsel. Sen. Roman Prezioso, lead sponsor; Sens. Bob Beach, D-Monongalia, Clements, Maroney, Smith, Sypolt, co-sponsors.

SB 441, to end the residency requirement and authorize institutions of higher learning to appoint all qualified individuals to serve as campus police officers. Sponsors same as above.

SB 445, the governor’s state employee pay raise bill.

HB 2688, to require air conditioning on all school buses.

HB 2694, to regulate the industrial hemp industry. Delegate Terri Sypolt, R-Preston, co-sponsor.

HB 2707, to create numbered divisions in multi-delegate districts, so that each seat is elected separately. Delegate Barbra Evans Fleischauer, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor.

HCR 30, a resolution to rename the Woods Run Bridge, carrying Marion County 30 over Paw Paw Creek as the U. S. Army PFC Thomas Howard Wills, Jr. Memorial Bridge. Delegate Mike Caputo, D-Marion, lead sponsor; Delegates Michael Angelucci and Linda Longstreth, both D-Marion, co-sponsors.
