Jacobs Street slip repair expected to take about 28 days

MORGANTOWN — Jacobs Street, a short connector in Morgantown’s 5th Ward — between Cornell Avenue and College Avenue — will soon be accessible from both ends after a slip has restricted access for more than a year.
Morgantown City Council approved a $160,810 contract with Coastal Drilling East, out of Mount Morris, Pa. in November for the repairs.
Repair work began on Jan. 2. There is a 90-day construction deadline, but the project is expected to take about 28 days.
City Engineer Damien Davis said the road was damaged after a portion of the hillside below it gave way. The slip resulted in closure to through traffic and funneled  all access from College Avenue.
The city initially attempted to handle the work in-house, but was not successful.
Potesta & Associates handled  the design work on the project at a cost of $12,660, and is overseeing construction administration services at a cost of $9,300.
