MORGANTOWN — West Virginia added its second verbal commitment Monday when receiver Terence Doston announced his intention.
Doston paid a visit to the WVU campus this weekend before making his commitment. At 5-foot-10 and
160 pounds, the three-star prospect brings more speed than size to the receiving corps, but it’s that very trait that drew him to West Virginia in the first place.
The Tampa, Fla. native told Rivals.com’s Kennan Cummings that he always wanted to play for the Mountaineers because he had followed the careers of receivers Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.
“West Virginia was always my dream school, so once they offered me I was surprised. I never knew they’d come and offer me,” Doston told Cummings. “Now it feels great, I can’t even explain it.”
Doston’s offers include Louisville, North Carolina, Maryland, South Florida, UCF, Vanderbilt and Washington State.
Doston’s primary recruiter was running backs coach Marquel Blackwell, who is a native of nearby St. Petersburg, Fla.
Doston also intends to join West Virginia quarterback Trey Lowe as a member of the Mountaineers baseball team. Doston is a left-handed hitting center fielder. His high school, Hillsborough, has more renown producing baseball talent than football. Former Major Leaguers Doc Gooden, Gary Sheffield and Carl Everett all attended the school.
Doston joined four-star junior college cornerback Dreshun Miller in committing to the Mountaineers on Monday. WVU now has
16 commits for 23 available scholarships. Rivals rates the current class at 43rd nationally and fifth in the Big 12.
Doston plans to sign his letter of intent Dec. 19 and enroll next summer.
