MORGANTOWN — Two people from North Carolina were killed in an accident near the 155 mile marker of Interstate 79 about 11:20 a.m. Saturday.
A preliminary investigation shows the two deceased, of Winston-Salem, were driving south in a Honda Accord when the vehicle crossed the median and struck a Jeep Patriot traveling north, Chief Deputy Al Kisner, of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, said.
The names of the dead are not being released because the family has not yet been notified. Kisner said police in Winston-Salem went to the victims’ address and neighbors said the two lived alone, but they do have a son. Kisner said officers in North Carolina are attempting to identify and notify him. The two appear to have been a couple, Kisner said.
The Jeep Patriot had two passengers who were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Kisner said. Their names are not yet available as the report is still being put together, he added.
It’s not clear what caused the Accord to cross over the median. The bodies will likely be sent to Charleston for an autopsy, Kisner said.
