CONWAY, S.C. — Bob Huggins went deep into his bench Thursday, playing freshman forward Emmitt Matthews Jr. for the first time and giving some extended minutes to guards Jordan McCabe and Jermaine Haley.
“He was more under control,” West Virginia guard Beetle Bolden said of McCabe. “I had some early fouls in the first half and he did a good job of coming in and controlling the game.”
Huggins was asked how he would keep his young guys focused playing on two consecutive days and three games over four days.
“Fortunately, we don’t have to depend on many of them,” Huggins said. “Hopefully we have enough older guys who will step up and show the way.”
