Charles S. Seaman, age 96, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday morning, November 1, 2018, at his residence with his granddaughter, Abby, by his side.
He was born March 30, 1922, in Morgantown, a son of the late Raymer Egbert Seaman, and the late Maude Amanda Vanorder Seaman.
Survivors include one son, James Seaman and his wife Sandy; two step-children, Dan Fisher and his wife Prudence and Terry Fisher and his wife Judy; Abby Hobert, who was his long time caregiver, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Mae Goodwin Seaman; his children, Sarah Jeanette Hillery, Charles Raymer Seaman, Robert Preston Seaman, and Nancy Jane Sweeney; and four siblings.
Mr. Seaman was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army. For wounds he received in combat, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He enjoyed spending time at his summer camp on “his mountain above Big Sandy”. His greatest enjoyment came from just sitting on his front porch watching people pass by. He had a great sense of humor, always loved a good joke, and had time for a great meal.
Mr. Seaman’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice, and the aides from West Virginia Choice, whom he considered his family, for all of their care and comfort provided to him in his last days.
Charles’s request for cremation has been honored by his family. A memorial service may be scheduled at a later date and will be announced by the family.
Professional services have been provided to the family with the guidance of Smith Funeral & Cremation Care of Morgantown.
