GRANVILLE — Granville is starting to plan for the holidays.
“I received a written request from Bucky Forbes that came out of his advisory board meeting,” Granville Mayor Patricia Lewis said at this week’s town council meeting. “One of the members of this advisory board requested that we consider doing an official Christmas-tree lighting this year.”
Forbes is a lieutenant with the Granville Police Department.
Council member Genevieve Calvert mentioned the idea of having children from the school there to sing Christmas carols at the tree lighting.
Lewis said she would pass word on to the school.
Also at the meeting, a representative from CONSOL Energy said the company does not own the property Granville wants to obtain for a recreational facility. However, for the past five years, and as recently as February, representatives from what Granville believed to be CONSOL continued to talk about selling the property, Granville Attorney Michael Solomon said during the meeting.
“We’re going to have to do more research now, and we’ll have to actually go and check the land records to see who the actual owner of the park is,” Solomon told council. “Our statements that CONSOL owned the property were based on their continued statements to us.”
Council also:
- made a motion to seal the walking trail and the concession area at the softball park. The cost for sealing the trail and the pavement in front of the concession stand is $2,213.20, and will come from hotel/ motel taxes.
- made a motion to buy a Main Street property for $50,000.
- made a motion to put permits on permanent record.
