Harold K. VanHorn, age 92, of Grafton, (formerly of Evansville Pike), passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the Home Away from Home Personal Care Home, in Grafton.
He was born April 26, 1926, in Richwood, a son of the late David K. and Stacy (Shell) VanHorn.
He is survived by two sons, Charles D. “Chuck” VanHorn (Edie) and Steve VanHorn (Jo Etta), all of Grafton; four grandchildren, Hollie Summers (Frank), Hayley Wyckoff (Eric), James VanHorn, and Stacey Gump (Todd), all of Grafton; two step-grandchildren, Dawn Lake and Sherry Lake Woodford; six great-grandchildren, Savanna Wyckoff, Jefferey Wyckoff, Rowan Pace, Addison Pace, Carson VanHorn, and Beau Gump; one brother, Paul VanHorn, of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie P. (Poling) VanHorn and second wife, Cosby M. (Potts) VanHorn; one step-son, Donald L. Lake; one step-daughter, Frances Rigger; and two sisters, Pauline and Lila.
Harold served in the US Army during World War II then worked in the logging and strip mine business and also worked as a heavy equipment operator.
He enjoyed his family, hunting, and fishing and was a member of the Weslyan Holiness Church in Grafton.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, in Grafton, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, and from 10 a.m. on Monday, September 24, until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. with Pastor D.J. Maley officiating.
Interment will follow at the Woodsdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grafton.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Army Honor Guard from Camp Dawson.
