Preston County Music and Arts Fest set for Saturday

KINGWOOD — For a day of food, entertainment and shopping, try the Preston County Music and Arts Festival this weekend. The gathering is set for 1-9 p.m. Saturday on Price Street in Kingwood and will host a variety of vendors, artists and musicians.
Lynn Housner, president of the Preston Community Arts Center, said attendees are encouraged to shop before the festival. He said The Farmer’s Market and the McGrew House Gift Shop will be open as will Sophie’s Attic, Monroe’s Antique Shop, Diana’s Closet, The Little Shop Around the Corner, Picker’s Dream, The Ceramic Shop and the Preston Community Arts Center.
Festival-goers will find everything from West Virginia arts and crafts, antiques, nostalgic items, ceramics and quilts, novels, pottery woodcraft, to paintings. Other vendors will include painters, potters, jewelers, weavers and woodcrafters whose work will be on display for sale until 6 p.m.

Janet Szilagyi, president of Arts Preston, said from the following Preston County musicians and singers will perform:

  • 1-1:30 p.m. — Flutopia and Friends — classic and contemporary flute
  • 1:40-2:10 p.m. — Preston County Community Chorus — classic, contemporary and Christian
  • 2:20-2:50 p.m. — Wes and Heidi Ridenour of the Jubilee Academy — classical, folk, bluegrass and rock
  • 3-3:30 p.m. — Charles Langford — original folk and country
  • 3:40-4:10 p.m. — The Outwaughs — classic rock and outlaw country
  • 4:20-4:50 p.m. — Tom and JoAnn Peterson — classics and standards of the ’70s
  • 5-5:30 p.m. — Back2Vinl — Rick Snider and Jeff Cawthon — original folk and Christian
  • 5:40-6:20 p.m. — PHS students Abigail Pletcher and Emma Harvey — acoustic covers and pop
  • 6:30-7 p.m. — PHS student Bailey Smith — acoustic covers and original music
  • 7:15-9 p.m. — Paul Burger and Karen Bright — classic rock and country

Housner said attendees will receive a coupon for 10 percent off at several restaurants throughout Preston County. The coupon is good until Sept. 5.
Some of the restaurants participating include Brew Ha Ha, Home Town Hot Dogs, Sweet Baby’s Country BarBQ, Muriel’s at the Inn, RoseMary’s Thyme, Minnie Donuts and Heidi Larue.

The day ends with a movie on the lawn at 9 p.m. at the Preston County Inn.
Housner said he would like to remind people the Kingwood Pool will be open during the festival.

In case of rain, the musicians will play inside the community arts center and the arts will be in the Volunteer Fire Department Community Building on Brown Avenue.
