BRIDGEPORT — Caleb Taylor wrapped up the Area 2 tournament in style and the Morgantown Post 2 American Legion baseball team came away with the championship.
Taylor had two hits and drove in two runs and Cam Stoldt pitched a complete-game five hitter to lead Post to a 4-1 victory against Fairmont.
The win advances Post 2 to next week’s state tournament, at St. Albans.
In three tournament games, Taylor batted .875 (7-for-8) with five RBIs. Post 2 went 3-0 to win the tournament by a combined score of 28-4. Sunday’s win was the only game that went all seven innings for Post 2.
Stoldt allowed an unearned run in the first inning and was dominant from there. Over seven innings, he allowed just three walks and struck out two.
Quintin Smith also drove in a run and Colton Matthews scored twice. Andrew Berry and Chandler Watts also had hits for Morgantown.
