BRIDGEPORT — Quintin Smith homered and drove in three runs to lead the Morgantown American Legion baseball back team back to the Area 2 championship game with an 11-0 victory against Fairmont on Saturday.
Post 2 (30-8) will play the winner of the Fairmont-Bridgeport game, at 1 p.m. today. Post 2 will have to be beaten twice to be eliminated. The Area 2 champion advances to the state tournament next week in St. Albans.
In it’s first two games of the tournament, Post 2 outscored its opponents, 24-3, and both games ended early via the mercy rule.
Smith was 2-for-2 and Caleb Taylor also added two hits, while throwing the shutout on the mound.
Taylor allowed just two hits over five innings. He walked none and struck out three.
