Richard Kelly ‘Rich’ Holbert, 50, of Maidsville, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Rich fought a hard battle against Pancreatic cancer and is now at peace.
Rich was born December 26, 1967, son to Jerry L. and Nancy Kelly Holbert, of Maidsville.
Rich worked as a professional welder for more than 30 years, most of which while living in Cocoa Beach, Fla., where he called home for 20 years. He contracted for various businesses and companies including, The Kennedy Space Center and Disney, while traveling across the state of Florida. His skill as a welder was well known all over the state.
When not donning a welder’s mask, he would most likely be found outdoors. He was an avid bow hunter and loved to fish. He also enjoyed time on the water, boating the rivers and lakes all across Florida. He recently returned home to West Virginia and worked at Holbert Metal Works.
In addition to his parents, Rich is survived by his sister, Brandy Kline and husband Shawn, of Fairmont; longtime girlfriend, Paula Lewis, of Mt. Morris, Pa.; aunts and uncles, Karen and David Shaffer, of Westover, Jim and Connie Holbert, of Dilliner, Pa. and Jodie Brock and Terry Summers, of Fairmont; cousins, Jeff Shaffer, of King George, Va., Lori Shaffer, of Vail, Colo. and Michelle Hurley, of Mt. Morris, Pa. and many friends.
To honor Rich’s love of nature and simple approach to life, cremation was arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. A private scattering ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family.
