WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — Michael Mercado didn’t allow a hit in five innings, leading the Hudson Valley Renegades over the West Virginia Black Bears in an 8-0 win on Thursday July 12.
Mercado (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out six.
Hudson Valley started the scoring in the first inning when Tanner Dodson hit an RBI single to score Michael Smith.
The Renegades later added runs in four additional innings to finish off the shutout.
Zach Spears (0-1) went three innings, allowing two runs and six hits in the New York-Penn League game. He also struck out one and walked one.
The Black Bears were held scoreless for the second time this season, while the Renegades’ staff recorded their fourth shutout of the year.
The series will conclude at 7 p.m. today (July 13).
