LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Former WVU men’s basketball standout Jevon Carter wrapped up his first NBA summer league Tuesday July 10 against a former teammate.
The Sacramento Kings defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 94-80, at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, with Carter — a second-round pick by Memphis last month — scoring five points and adding six assists and five rebounds.
Devin Williams, a standout with the Mountaineers from 2013-’16, scored eight points and added six rebounds for the Kings.
According to a published report out of Sacramento, Daxter Miles Jr., Carter’s former backcourt mate at WVU, was released by the Kings on July 5, after playing three games in the Sacramento summer league. He did not participate in the Las Vegas summer league. The report said there was no reason given for Miles’ release.
Carter’s summer league also included three games in Utah. Overall, in six games, he shot 30.1 percent from the field (16-of-52) and averaged 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Williams averaged 3.8 points per game for the Kings in six summer games and shot 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from the field and averaged 4.2 rebounds per game.
Carter was taken with the 32nd pick by the Grizzlies — the second pick in the second round.
Carter’s next step will be training camp in September, with the NBA’s regular season scheduled to begin in October.
