MORGANTOWN — An ongoing project to repair the limestone facade and brick parapet of Morgantown City Hall is scheduled for completion in September, to be followed by a number of additional improvements to the city’s 90-plus-year-old headquarters.
The $318,000 facelift is a combination of engineering and architecture from Alpha Associates and masonry by Arch Masonry. About a quarter of those funds were provided through a West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.
Morgantown Communications Director Andrew Stacy said the work, which temporarily closed a portion of sidewalk along Spruce Street, includes deconstruction and structural changes to the front of the building, as well as the cleaning and re-pointing of limestone blocks and repairs to the building’s roof.
Stacy said future projects include a replacement of the sidewalk in front of the building, another facade fix on the back of the building, electrical upgrades, basement renovations and a large-scale plumbing project expected to go out for bid this summer.
The building is currently wrapped with scaffolding surrounded by protective netting.
