MORGANTOWN — Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday June 25, Morgantown Utility Board (MUB) crews will close Valley View Avenue from Willowdale Road to Chateau Royale while MUB crews replace water lines. The work is expected to continue for three weeks.
During this time MUB crews will make every effort to keep a single lane open; however, at times this simply will not be possible. The road will be reopened each evening after 4 p.m.
Replacement of the water line is part of a larger project to upgrade an undersized storm line that is in poor condition. The size and condition of this storm line causes localized flooding in the area following significant rain events.
Also, as part of this project, MUB crews will install a new sanitary line parallel to Valley View Avenue. While the entire project is estimated to be 80 days long, because the sanitary and storm lines are located beneath privately owned parking areas, only the water line replacement will impede traffic.
Work on the upper portion of Valley View Avenue will begin next summer as Phase II of the project. MUB is working with West Virginia Division of Highways officials to coordinate the repaving of the road surface at the completion of the project.
Overall, this project includes the installation of 340 feet of 30-inch and 48-inch storm lines, 1,055 feet of 18-inch to 30-inch storm lines, 340 feet of 8-inch PVC water line, 670 feet of 12-inch sanitary sewer line, and construction of 20 storm inlets. In addition to the work, a MUB contractor will bore 10 to 30 feet below Willowdale Road to connect to a manhole located on the stadium side. Boring will permit work to be completed without impacting traffic flow along Willowdale Road.
The cost of the total project is estimated at $1.2 million.
