BATAVIA, N.Y. — Edison Lantigua hit a bases-clearing single in the third inning, leading the West Virginia Black Bears to a 4-3 win over the Batavia Muckdogs on June 20.
After a week on the road to open the season, the Black Bears play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. June 21, against State College, at Mon County Ballpark.
Miguel Hernandez allowed a run, but got Gerardo Nunez to hit into a double play with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season.
The single by Lantigua scored Michael De La Cruz, Melvin Jimenez and Brett Kinneman to give the Black Bears a 3-0 lead. West Virginia added a run in the fifth on a single by Lantigua.
West Virginia right-hander Alex Manasa (1-0) picked up a quality start and the win, allowing two runs on just four hits over 6 1/3 innings in the New York-Penn League game.
