City should take some deep breaths on forest

John Sofranko, Morgantown

Is the Haymaker Forest a good deal for the city? I personally feel that a “green belt” around Morgantown is the right thing to do. But there are two problems that I can see.
First is the apparent urgency with which the city is making this decision. Second is the apparent greed of the forest’s current owner group. Taking a few deeps breaths on the one hand and a deeper look within on the other hand is advised. A reasonable person would agree with this approach.

We have seen many a small city or town in our travels that have parks and recreation, well maintained roads, clean streets and businesses, etc. Their means of financing is unknown. But without the oft repeated mantra of opportunity in Morgantown and Monongalia County, these places of limited means seem to be able to do it. Why can’t we?
