ROWLESBURG — For four days, the city of Rowlesburg will celebrate Memorial Day as well as Preston County’s 200th birthday with the 11th Annual River City Festival.
The gathering kicked off at 9 a.m. Friday with educational tours at the Szilagyi Center.
Today’s festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a Preston County Sports Museum program focused on Newburg sports history, featuring Mike Argabright and Gene King.
There are a number of events and musical performances scheduled through Monday, such as the River City Festival Gala Dance at 8 p.m. tonight, at the Szilagyi Center auditorium — where the band Classics will play — and a patriotic dinner set for 5 p.m. Sunday, at the VFW Social Hall.
To mark the county’s bicentennial, festival-goers can check out a play at 2:30 p.m. Sunday dedicated to Prestonians who fought in World War I. The Preston County Community Chorus will also put on a tribute concert at 4 p.m. in the center’s auditorium.
In addition, attendees can visit exhibits and grab food at various locations throughout the festival.
