The Morgantown High boys’ lacrosse team opened its West Virginia Scholastic Lacrosse Association playoffs with a 9-8 win over Spring Mills on May 12, at MHS.
The Mohigans (12-4) advanced to the semifinals and will play the winner of George Washington and Capital on Friday, at MHS.
MHS goals were scored by Cody Calvert (3), Nate Goldcamp, Ethan Host, Daniel Stanton, Riley Kane, Mike Jones and Nate Fielding. Noah Yohn (2), Calvert, Host and Hazen Powell all had assists. Goalie Daniel Pastilong had six saves.
Track and field
WESTON — Shawnee Jenkins took first place in the 100-meter hurdles Friday, to headline the four athletes from Trinity who advanced to the state track meet after the Region II meet.
Jenkins won with a time of 16.20 and also qualified in the 100-meter dash (13.64) with a fourth-place finish and the 200 (28.02), where she also took fourth.
Kaylie Laskody qualified in the high jump (4 feet, six inches) with a fourth-place finish, and also took fourth in the 800 (2:41.24) to qualify.
Reagan Sharp took second in the long jump with a leap of 16-7 to qualify.
The team of Laskody, Sharp, Jenkins and Emily Braham also qualified in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:13.64) with a fifth-place finish.
For Clay-Battelle, Hailey Carreon qualified for the state meet in four events (100-meter dash, 200 dash, 100 hurdles and 4×102 1/2 shuttle hurdle relay). Other members of the relay team includes Shannon Statler, Addison Ammons and McKenna Kirby.
Ammons won the pole vault, at 10 feet. Kaitlyn Tennant finished third in shot put.
On the boys’ side, Nathan Swaniger qualified in three events (100-meter dash, 4×100 relay and 4×200 relay). His relay team also included Gunner Brummage, Logan Forquer and Seth Casino. Forquer qualified in the 200-meter dash with a third-place finish.
Brummage won the high-jump, at 6 feet. Benji Steele finished second in discus and Casino finished third in the long jump.
