Eugene D. McCartney, 83, of Grafton, formerly of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday May 1, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Gilmer County, a son of the late Loyd and Georgia Stump McCartney.
Eugene retired as a paver operator from General Paving after many years of dedicated service. In his younger years, he enjoyed raccoon hunting. He also enjoyed making rugs, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially all of the kids.
He is survived by two sons, Robert McCartney and wife, Bethany, of Grafton, and Loyd McCartney, of Morgantown; daughter, Joyce Mapel and husband, Randy, of Grafton; grandchildren, Joshua Mapel and wife, Kara, Samuel Mapel and wife, Tracy, Noah McCartney, Brady Wildroudt, Karigan Wildroudt and Lydia Wildroudt; and great-grandchildren, Lillian, Jayce, Spencer, Colton and James. Eugene is also survived by a brother, Foster McCartney, of Morgantown; and sisters, Carolyn Matthew, of Arthurdale, and Linda McFadden, of Gans, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Goldie McCartney in 2013; brother, Frank McCartney; and sisters, Emily Petrich, Emmajean McCartney, Edith Saylor, Mary Daugherty and Ruth Schiffbauer.
Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue from noon Saturday, May 5, until the 1 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Cam Bucklew and the Rev. Peggy Petrich officiating. Burial will follow at Halleck Cemetery.
