William Howdershelt

William Joseph “Bill” Howdershelt, 66, of Morgantown, passed away Monday afternoon, April 30, 2018, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 11, 1951, in Bruceton Mills, a son of the late Robert Franklin Howdershelt and the late Sophie Mae (Nestor) Howdershelt.

Survivors include his children, Dana Gibson and husband, Ronnell, Brandon Howdershelt and his companion, Sequoia Linton, and Amber Howdershelt and her companion, Jesse Dean, all of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Sterling and Abby; a brother, Robert L. (Ruth) Howdershelt, of Bruceton Mills; four sisters, Thelma Jean (Don) Groves, of Bruceton Mills, Judith Ann (Neil) Phillips, of Taylortown, Pa., Darlene Bonievich, of N. Huntington, Pa., and Phyllis (Kenneth) Cox, of Taylortown, Pa., a sister-in-law, Vickie Howdershelt, of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews. He  is also  survived by his former spouse and caregiver, Pamela Howdershelt, of Morgantown; and his best friend, Larry Cool, of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Ray Howdershelt; one sister, Elizabeth Howdershelt; and a brother-in-law, Norman Bonievich.
Bill had a love of antique cars and trucks, enjoyed outdoor activities, cooking, listening to his children sing and enjoyed road trips. He was a member of the Morgantown IOOF Lodge 10 and the Sagebrush Round-Up. He also enjoyed time with his friends and co-workers and had a solid work ethic.
He was a former truck driver for several different companies, owned his own trucking business and was a former bus driver with Mon County Schools. He also worked for Kroger until his health prevented him from doing so. His customers there ultimately became his friends.
Friends may join the family to honor Bill’s life & legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Friday,  and from 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Terry Wilson officiating. Following the funeral service, family and friends will meet at the Centenary Cemetery, near Bruceton Mills, at 1 p.m. for the committal service.
