MORGANTOWN — Norwood Addition Neighborhood Association President Ed Devine said residents in the Norwood and Jerome Park neighborhoods have concerns about changes rumored for the intersection of W.Va. 7 (Earl L Core) and CR 857 (Green Bag Road), near Hardees in the middle of Sabraton.
The associations are coming together to host a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Apostolic Church, at 1439 Sabraton Avenue.
“This meeting is mostly to get the information out,” Devine explained. “This is just the beginning.”
Devine noted the plans currently being circulated don’t appear to be any of the options previously presented in public meetings held by the Division of Highways (DOH), in 2015.
He explained that residents are especially concerned about the potential closure of the short connector — between Hardees and Woodburn Shanks — that allows access from Sabraton Avenue to Earl Core Road.
The connector is not only used daily by residents living in the area but is often the fastest route for fire crews dispatched from the Morgantown Fire Department’s Norwood station, Devine explained.
City administration and representatives from the DOH were invited to attend the meeting.
The DOH originally presented seven options — including two roundabout choices and various intersection configurations — in late 2015. At the time, it was anticipated construction would be under way by Fall 2016.
