UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The WVU gymnastics team will compete as the No. 4 seed at the NCAA University Park Regional, at 4 p.m. April 7.
The championships will be streamed for free on BTN2GO.
Florida is seeded No. 1, Washington No. 2, Arizona State No. 3, Penn State No. 5 and New Hampshire No. 6.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA meet. Event winners also will advance if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
Junior Kirah Koshinski paces the Mountaineers on vault and floor and ranks nationally on both. Zaakira Muhammad tops the team on bars and in the all-around. Junior Carly Galpin paces WVU on beam.
TENNIS
Kansas State 4, WVU 1: The Mountaineers started strong, taking the doubles point, but got swept in singles Friday, at the Summit Tennis Academy.
With all three doubles matches in the tiebreaker at one time, WVU (7-7, 1-2 Big 12) claimed the point. Christina Jordan and Sofía Duran bested Carolina Costamagna and Margot Decker, 7-6 (3).
The freshmen tandem of Anne-Sophie Courteau and Giovanna Caputo lost, 6-7 (5).
Lyn Yuen Choo and Paula Goetz came through for WVU with a 7-6 (7) win against Maria Linares and Anna Turco.
WVU resumes its homestand at noon Sunday, taking on Kansas, at the Summit Tennis Academy.
GOLF
The Mountaineers are in Kannapolis, N.C., today and Sunday for the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate at the Club, at Irish Creek.
Charlotte and Davidson will host the 54-hole tourney at the par-72, 7,099-yard course. Also in the field: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee, Kansas, North Florida, UNCG, James Madison,VCU, Indiana, Akron, Dartmouth and Dayton.
Etienne Papineau will play in the No. 1 spot for the Mountaineers. He ranks second on the team with a scoring average of 73.16.
ROWING
The Mountaineers continue their spring campaign with a pair of competitions at Lakewood Park in Norfolk, Va., this weekend.
WVU will compete at the Big 12 Duals today, then an exhibition race with Old Dominion on Sunday.WVU will start off today at 7 a.m., against three-time defending Big 12 champions Texas, then take on Oklahoma in the second session.
SOCCER
The Mountaineers plan a scrimmage doubleheader today, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, with the women’s team playing Duquesne at 1 p.m. and the men facing West Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
Admission is free to both matches.
