LUBBOCK, Texas — Freshman left-hander Jackson Wolf pitched four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win March 29 as the WVU baseball team beat No. 7 Texas Tech, 1-0, in the opener of a three-game Big 12 series.
The Mountaineers (10-12, 1-3 Big 12) have won three in a row against the Red Raiders (21-6, 1-3 Big 12) and five of the last seven, all while TTU has been ranked in the top 10 nationally. Six of the last seven games between the two teams were one-run contests.
In front of 3,833, WVU handed Texas Tech its first home loss in 15 games this season at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Wolf allowed just two hits with three strikeouts and two walks. He relieved sophomore right-handed starter Isaiah Kearns, who allowed two hits in three innings.
Wolf was followed by senior right-hander Shane Ennis. In the final two innings, he allowed one hit with two strikeouts to earn his first career save.
Junior right fielder Darius Hill drove in the Mountaineers’ run, with a sixth-inning single. It was his first game-winning hit of the season. Hill had one of WVU’s three hits.
The series continues at 7:30 p.m. today. The game will air nationally on FS1.
— The Backyard Brawl between the WVU baseball team and Pitt was rescheduled for April 11, with first pitch at 6 p.m., at Monongalia County Ballpark.
TRACK AND FIELD
Mountaineers will attend two meets today and Saturday: The Raleigh (N.C.) Relays and the Stanford (Calif.) Invitational.
“The majority of the team will see action in North Carolina,” WVU coach Sean Cleary said, “while a handful of kids will be out west. This is a great opportunity for the kids in California to put up some marks that would get them qualified for the NCAA championships.”
WVU is among more than 120 collegiate programs competing at N.C. State this weekend.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Junior defender Vanessa Flores was named to the Mexican Women’s National Team for a pair of friendlies against the United States. The matches will take place April 5, at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., and April 8, at BBVA Compass Stadium, in Houston.
Flores, from Baytown, Texas, has been training with the full national team since July 2017.

WVU Senior Associate Athletic Director/Executive Director of the Mountaineer Athletic Club Ben Murray announced the establishment of The Ron “Fritz” Williams Scholarship.
