MORGANTOWN — Morgantown City Council cast a unanimous vote in favor of the new five-year contract with trash and recycling hauler Republic Services during its most recent regular session.
City administration has been in negotiations with Republic since last fall, when the previous deal ended. The contract year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.
The contract lays out a gradually-increasing rate schedule. Customers will see a jump from $17.13 to $17.64 coming in the second year of the contract, beginning Oct. 1. Included in that number is a fuel surcharge regulated by the West Virginia Public Service Commission.
Year three of the contract stipulates a monthly rate of $18.17, which jumps to $18.72 in year four and $19.28 in year five.
A chart included in the contract spells out Dumpster collection costs for commercial enterprises based on the size of the receptacle and frequency of collection.
According to information included in Brake’s memorandum to council, Republic provides trash and recycling collection for 9,564 residential accounts and 1,058 commercial accounts in the city.
