Mon Health interim COO stepping down

The Dominion Post

Mon Health System announced on Wednesday that Mon Health Medical Center interim Chief Operating Officer Dottie Oakes has resigned.

Oakes, who was named the hospital’s COO in November, was tapped in February to serve as the interim replacement for former system President and CEO Darryl Duncan for an unspecified term.

An executive leadership group is running the organization while a search for a new CEO is under way, the press release said.

Mon Health declined a request for an interview to elaborate on details of Oakes’ resignation, who is on the leadership team, transition plans and other questions. Mon Health was working on compiling answers to the questions for a response today.

Regarding Oakes, the release said, “When she came out of retirement to join Mon Health last November, it was to serve in an interim capacity to assist the hospital during a transitional period.”

The release continued, “We are steadfast in our commitment and will continue providing the exceptional care and experience our patients and communities have come to rely on.”

A January press release on Mon Health expanding its leadership team named Mark Gilliam as chief information officer, Lisa Simon as chief transformation officer and Dr. Gregory Nelcamp as chief medical officer.

The Dominion Post reported in early February that Duncan was on a leave of absence from the organization. Twenty-eight physicians had signed a letter Jan. 19 stating Duncan’s leadership style eroded employee morale and led to several high-profile resignations.
