WVU roundup: Men’s hoops game vs. U.K. at 7 p.m.

MORGANTOWN — The Big 12 Conference and ESPN announced that WVU’s basketball game against Kentucky, on Jan. 27, will tip at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.

The game will be televised by ESPN. No tickets remain for the Big 12/SEC Challenge contest.

FOOTBALL

The “Backyard Brawl” between WVU and Pitt, in 2022, at Heinz Field, will be played Sept. 3 and be the season opener for both schools.

The game, originally scheduled for Sept. 17, 2022, is part of a four-year home-and-home deal between the two schools. Games will be played in 2022 and 2024 in Pittsburgh and in Morgantown in 2023 and 2025.

GYMNASTICS

The Mountaineers close their season-opening homestand with the Wendy M. Roach Pink Meet Invitational, at 2 p.m. Sunday, against George Washington and Towson.

Tickets will be available Sunday at the Coliseum Gold Gate for $3 for all fans who wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. WVU students are admitted free with a valid I.D.

The first 1,000 fans will receive a pink shaker; pink T-shirts will be available for a minimum donation of $10. The Mountaineers again will collect sundry items, such as socks, body lotion, nail polish and magazines, for donation to Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.

SWIMMING/DIVING

After registering four total wins at TCU, on Saturday, sophomore Morgan Bullock was named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.

The Zeeland, Mich., native claimed individual wins in the 100 butterfly (55.60), 200 butterfly (1:58.92) and 200 individual medley (2:02.73), and was a member of the Mountaineers’ first-place 200 medley relay team (1:45.51).

Bullock paced WVU to a 196-103 victory over the Horned Frogs.

BASEBALL

The Mountaineers are ranked No. 22 in the D1Baseball Preseason top 25.

WVU is one of four Big 12 teams in the top 25 (Texas Tech, No. 3; TCU, No. 7; and Texas, No. 21).

The Mountaineers are coming off the program’s first NCAA tournament appearance in 21 years.

WRESTLING

Redshirt senior Jacob A. Smith and redshirt junior Zeke Moisey remain ranked in the top 20 of their weight classes by several publications.

Smith (6-3), at 197 pounds, is ranked No. 12 by FloWrestling, No. 13 according to Intermat and checks in at No. 15 via The Open Mat.

Moisey (15-6), at 125, is No. 13 by The Open Mat, No. 14 by Intermat and No. 16 by FloWrestling.

WVU (3-3, 2-1 Big 12) rewrestles at Oklahoma State on Friday, and Iowa State on Sunday.
