GRANVILLE (AP) — J.D. Crowe hit a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning to lead the State College Spikes to a 13-11 win over the West Virginia Black Bears on Aug. 29.
The single by Crowe scored Wood Myers and Zach Kirtley and sent the Black Bears to their sixth straight loss.
With the win, State College passed West Virginia for second place in the New York-Penn League’s Pinckney Division.
The Black Bears trailed 8-0 at one point, but scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take an 11-9 lead.
State College tied the game, 11-11, in the next half-inning, when Crowe hit an RBI single, driving in Ricardo Bautista.
Reliever Will Latcham (3-1) picked up the win. Matt Seelinger (0-1) went three innings, allowing four runs and five hits. Jesus Cruz retired the side in order for his first save.
The Spikes’ Scott Hurst doubled and singled, scoring three runs in the win.
For the Black Bears, Sandy Santos homered and singled, driving in three runs and scoring a pair. Tristan Gray tripled and doubled, driving home four. Jose Barraza drove in three.
