MORGANTOWN — The fight against addiction is the fight for West Virginia’s future. We’ve all got a role to play.
Frankie Tack, a clinical assistant professor and coordinator of WVU’s Addiction Studies minor program, recently made this point before Morgantown City Council in reference to concerns raised over an Oxford House sober living facility potentially opening at 309 Grand St., in South Park.
Oxford House has a sober living home on Snider Street — off north Willey — and just over 2,300 houses across the nation. Morgantown Sober Living has three locations, totaling 32 beds.
“We simply don’t have enough places for people. Recovery homes or sober living environments aren’t treatment. They’re peer support models,” Tack said. “These are people all in recovery working on it together.”
According to Deputy Chief Eric Powell of the Morgantown Police Department, “there’s no statistical indication that there is an increase in calls or reported incidents in areas where these facilities are located.”
