Freda June Murry

With a profound sense of peace and celebration of a beautiful life, the family of Freda June Murry announce her passing of Freda June Murry Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Born October 12, 1942, in Pigeon Creek, Freda’s journey came to a gentle end in Marion, Va., after a long illness, amidst the love of her doting family.
Throughout her 82 years, Freda’s presence was a beacon of compassion and faith. She stood as a devoted partner to her husband of 65 years, the Rev. Jackie D. Murry, embodying the virtues of love and commitment in their shared journey. Together, they brought into the world a legacy of devotion echoed by her son, Jack, Jr., and his wife, Rose, all of Marion. Her life was further enriched by the joy of her five cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and wife Autumn, Regan, April, Christopher, and the companionship of her “daughter,” Cindy Crawford.
Freda intuitively connected with people through her lifelong ministry. After getting married, she answered a resounding call to serve others as the pastor of New Life Church of God in National. Alongside her husband, she dedicated over 50 years to teaching and exemplifying Christ’s message of hope. Even after retiring and spending time in Florida, Freda eventually moved to Virginia, choosing to stay close to her loved ones.
Her passion for Jesus and His message was matched only by her loving and faith-filled character. The Holy Spirit was evident in everything she did. Freda will be remembered as someone whose indelible impact resonates in the core of many hearts.
Freda joins her beloved daughters, Stormy and Betsy; her parents, William “Bill” Russell and Oakley Jean Wirt; and her siblings, the Rev. Michael E. Wirt, Jean Ferrell and Frances Sloan, in eternal rest.
She leaves behind a legacy that is imprinted on the lives of those she touched with her unfaltering love and inspiring conviction.
Friends and family are invited to gather in the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 17, and again Tuesday, March 18, from 10 until time of services at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Gilliam officiating.
Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
