James Austin

James “Jamie” Austin passed away Monday, March 3, 2025. He was born December 27, 1962, in Morgantown, one of three children of Edna Florence Ault Austin and James Andrews.
Jamie is survived by his son, Cory Austin of Morgantown; daughters, Jessie Austin (Erick Umana), and Brooke Delaney (Tim); his stepson, Ross Justice of Morgantown, whom he loved as his own; his sister, Jacqueline “Jacquie” Yost of Morgantown; his step-father, David Lee Austin of Morgantown; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shari Austin; and his brother, William “Bill” Austin.
Jamie attended Morgantown High School and pursued a post-secondary education in computer technology.
Since 2008, he was a dedicated and respected employee of Kroger. His strong work ethic, reliability, and kindness made him a trusted leader, and he took pride in building meaningful relationships with his coworkers, vendors and customers.
A skilled craftsman, Jamie had a gift for woodworking and finishing work, always taking the time to perfect each detail. He was also a car
enthusiast, who found joy in mechanical work.
Above all, Jamie was a man of deep compassion – dependable to those who needed him, always willing to lend a hand or share his wisdom. He cherished his time with family and friends, especially taking his children, nieces and nephews fishing. His steady presence and generous spirit will be profoundly missed.
Friends may join the family to honor Jamie’s life and legacy from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Avenue, Westover (304-292-9494).
Per Jamie’s wishes, he will be cremated following the visitation.
