Warren Kenneth Darnell passed away peacefully, at the age of 72, Friday, February 14, 2025, in WVU Medicine in Morgantown.
Born June 5, 1952, in Morgantown, to Ronald Darnell and the late Ieda Messenger, Warren was a man whose gentle kindness permeated his life and the lives of those around him.
Warren leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his devoted father, Ronald Darnell; his wife, Mary Ann Higginbotham Darnell; his sons, Lucas Darnell and wife Kim, and Matthew Darnell and wife Jill. Warren was a cherished stepfather to Cloressa Higginbotham and Verronica Nightingale.
His memory will also be treasured by his sisters, Sherrie Temple, Sheila Morgan and Joann Darnell; brothers, Mike Darnell, David Darnell and Tom Darnell; and his adoring grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ieda Messenger; his first wife, Barbara Darnell; and his sister, Tena Snider.
Warren’s extensive career as a material handling foreman for the power company showcased his unwavering work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Above all, Warren loved being around his family. His gentle presence and kind demeanor were the cornerstone of many cherished family memories. Warren’s life was a testament to the enduring strength of quiet kindness, and while he will be profoundly missed, the warmth of his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Friends may gather in the McCulla Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 19. Visitation will continue in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Thursday, February 20, with Pastor Ray Fluharty officiating. McCulla Funeral Home will provide cremation services following the service. Entombment will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Peace Mausoleum.
