Woman arrested for financial crimes involving local cemeteries

On Jan. 17,  the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59-year-old Tammy Spring, of Thornton, following an extensive year-long investigation. Detectives have uncovered evidence indicating Spring engaged in embezzlement, document forgery and fraudulent schemes to steal funds from East Oak Grove and Oak Grove Cemetery.

The investigation revealed a pattern of financial misconduct occurring between February 2019 through September 2023. This arrest marks a significant step in holding individuals accountable for financial crimes that impact local institutions within our community.

Spring was arraigned before Monongalia County Magistrate Court and received an $80,000 cash/surety bond. She is currently being held at the North Central Regional Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office Detective Division is asking for the public’s assistance as the investigation continues.
