Prep Roundup: Sports return after weather-delayed week

MORGANTOWN – Sports returned over the weekend after last week’s statewide snowstorms that put a wrench in the wheel of the winter high school sports season.

Girls Basketball

Class AAAA

The No. 3 Morgantown Mohigans improved to 8-2 on the season with a solid 64-52 victory over Parkersburg in Fairmont on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kayli Kellogg led MHS with 22 points (14 came in the second half), Sadaya Jones added 14, and Lucie Hatcher had 12.

The Mohigans will host No. 2 Wheeling Park on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

The University Hawks fell to John Marshall on the road, 62-56, on Thursday night.

UHS falls to 6-4 and will return home this week to host Morgantown on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. on Baker’s Ridge.

The Preston Knights fell to 1-7 on the year with a one-possession loss to Elkins, 54-51 on Friday evening.

Class A

Trinity Christian fell to 1-4 on the year aftewr falling to Bethlehem Center (Pa.) 63-52 on Saturday afternoon.

Wrestling

The University Hawks captured the 2025 OVAC 5A and overall championship at the OVAC wrestling tournament over the weekend. 

Seniors Pepper Martin (113) and Brock Kehler were each crowned individual champions. Colton Gillespie (126), Nico Maisel (132), Carter Pauley (144), Emerson Murphy (175), and Jackson Pate (215), each finished as runner-up.
