Susan Eileen Decker Brown Kinney, 64, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 10, 2025, in Fairmont Regional Medical Center, with her children at her side. She was born July 30, 1960, the only daughter to Arlene Marteney Decker (Edgell) and the late Eugene Earl Decker.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Decker; her brother, Jack Decker; her niece, Kayla Decker; her maternal grandparents, James and Rosie Marteney; her paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Thelma Decker; her stepfather Okla Edgell; and her first husband, Lewis Charles Brown.
Susan graduated from Bridgeport High School, Class of 1978, and then went on to obtain two degrees from Fairmont State College.
She had a varied career over the years, from teaching to secretarial work at the time of her retirement from Valley HealthCare System in 2023. Susan continued working part time as a hostess and server at Cracker Barrel in Fairmont until the day before she passed away.
Susan and her first husband, Lewis, resided in Preston County for nearly 25 years. During this time they had two children. whom she was so very proud of and was not shy at telling the world just how proud of them she was.
Susan served her community well. She volunteered for many years with the Valley District Ambulance Service, with the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, with the Midway Getters 4-H Club, and with the Valley District Baseball League.
Susan was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Harrison County and Anmoore CEOS.
Throughout her life, Susan had many hobbies including crafting, quilting, and sewing. She was a Tupperware consultant in recent years and enjoyed attending craft / vendor shows.
Only three months ago, on October 5, 2024, Susan married David Kinney of Bridgeport and the two resided in Fairmont with their fur children, Squirt, Flossy and Fancy. While their time together was short, Susan gained more family members and friends as a result of their union and they loved her dearly.
In addition to her mother and husband, Susan is survived by her daughter, Courtney Dawn (Brian) Sites of Morgantown; her son, Charles Patrick (Valerie) Brown of Arthurdale; a sister-in-law, Debra Decker; two brothers, William (Angela) Decker, and James (Karen) Decker; two stepsisters, Lois (Dennis) Edgell and Cynthia Verno; stepbrother, David (Lessa) Hampton; her nephews, Christopher (Stephanie) Decker, Jonathan Decker, and Aaron Decker; and nieces, Brittany (Charles) Paige, and Haley Decker; great- nephews, Logan Decker and Jackson Paige; and great-nieces Emily Decker and Madison Paige. Susan’s absolute pride and joy were her grandchildren, Lucy Brown, Saylor Brown; and stepgrandchildren, Wyatt Moyer and Eli Moyer. Her family will not fail to make sure her grandchildren know just how much they were loved and adored by her. With Susan’s newfound union, she also leaves behind a stepson, Joshua Kinney (stepgranddaughter, Zoe); and stepdaughters, Kelly (Jeremy) Miller and Tessa Palazzolo (Anthony “Nino” and stepgrandson, Luca).
The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff of the Fairmont Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department. The staff went above and beyond to not only make Susan as comfortable as possible within her final hours, but were also attentive and compassionate to those surrounding her when she left this world.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 16, in Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue, Fairmont, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, with Pastor Rose Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.
