Jean “Jeanne” Friend Smith, 70, of Morgantown WV, went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Jeanne was born on March 16, 1954, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Melvin Friend and Ruth Stansberry Friend.
Jeanne was a 1972 graduate of Morgantown High School. She worked for Monongalia County Schools as a secretary for 30 years until her retirement in 2014. She was the leasing agent and CEO of Mel Friend Rentals as well as the President of Promised Land Corporation. She was a founding member of Covenant Church in Morgantown.
Jeanne gave her heart, soul, and mind to Jesus Christ and wanted everyone to know The Good News. She always recognized the goodness of God in her life, and the joy of the Lord certainly brought her strength.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Kathy Bissett and husband Jerry, Troy Smith and wife Tiffany, Susan Woods and husband Mike, and Michael Smith; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, David Friend and wife Rachel; her sisters; Deloris Vannoy and husband Ronnie and Lana Cantoni and husband Ben; many nieces and nephews, loving cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Steve Smith; her daughter, Jennifer Watson; and her brother Ronnie Friend.
Jeanne believed in serving others and stood firm on the promises of God. She greeted everyone with love, encouragement, kindness, wisdom, and without a doubt, the most beautiful smile. Jeanne was a friend to all.
Family and friends will be received at Covenant Global Methodist Church, 802 Greenbag Road in Morgantown, WV on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m. A time of celebration and thanksgiving of Jeanne’s life will begin at 4 p.m. with Pastor Nathan Williamson officiating.
