Bryan “Jerry” Nelson, 53, passed away peacefully in his South Park home on Saturday, December 8, 2024. His family, friends, and neighbors deeply grieve his passing.
Jerry is survived by his beloved mother, Lynda Anne Nelson; his father, Lawrence “Larry” John Nelson; his sister and her partner, Elyzabeth “Lisa” Ann Maxey and L. N. Gaspar; niece, Heather Maxey and her husband Nic; nephew, Erich Maxey and his wife Kayla; and a loving aunt, Patty Crooks.
Jerry was a man of simple pleasures and a big heart. His biggest love was camping, anywhere and anytime, with his faithful canine, Dante, by his side. He had a lifelong love for music from his early years as a DJ. He was an excellent cook and worked in many local eateries in Morgantown. His experiences in his short life led him to have many stories told to his friends and family. Known for his sharp wit and a great sense of humor, Jerry brought laughter and pearls of wisdom to those around him.
He was a blessing to his neighbors, always keeping a watchful eye. With his lawn care experience, he enjoyed mentoring a young neighborhood boy starting his own lawn care business.
Jerry’s life touched many, and his legacy of kindness, humor and community spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Friends may join the family to honor Jerry’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover (304-292-9494) on Thursday, December 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be no funeral service, and following the visitation Jerry will be cremated at the request of his family.
