Rudy Charles Kochel

Rudy Charles Kochel, entered eternal rest Thursday, December 5, 2024. Born March 12, 1956, Rudy was the beloved son of the late Charles Kochel and Catherine Cramer and, from an early age, was lovingly raised by his Uncle John and Aunt Shirley Cramer.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Wanda Kochel; his adopted daughter, Kristen Marie; his brothers, Chuck (Lisa) Cramer, and Jay (Debbie) Cramer; as well as his nieces and nephews.
Rudy dedicated his professional life to the Monongalia County Board of Education, where his work reflected his love for the community’s youth.
Beyond his career, Rudy’s true passion was fostering a love of sports and mentorship through coaching Little League, as well as spending cherished time at his cabin, in the quiet solace of the outdoors and the pursuit of hunting.
Rudy’s compassionate and caring nature left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. Perhaps no tribute captures his legacy better than the words of Jeff Helmick, one of the many young lives he influenced as a coach:
“Life could have easily gone in a totally different direction for me. It wasn’t easy getting to here, but having people in my life like you, Coach, gave me a vision of what it is to be a good man. Sometimes we don’t realize the lasting effects of our own presence. Our family life was a mess, and we didn’t get much raising, so as a young man trying to figure out what it was to be a good man, I have thought of you, Coach. Your kind, caring, and selfless approach to teaching definitely left positive tracks on the ground for me to follow. Thanks, Coach! Until we meet again, RIP Coach.”
Rudy’s warmth, humility, and selflessness will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 9, in the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Rudy’s life will take place Tuesday, December 10, with visitation from 10 until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.
Rudy’s life was a testament to kindness, mentorship, and love for his community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his generous spirit.
Ties are not required, as Rudy never liked wearing them.
