Daniel “Dan” Herbert Conner, 90, of Grafton, W.Va., passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, in Clarksburg Veterans Nursing Facility, with family by his side. He was born March 9, 1934, in Kingwood, a son of the late William M. Conner and Mae Uphold Conner.
Dan got his GED while in the Marine Corps, and then did two years of college at Career College in Florida.
Dan served in the United States Marine Corps and did three tours during the Vietnam war with 22 years of service.
He was a life member of the Masontown Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Dan worked as a coal miner for Martinka in Fairmont and retired with 22 of service.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Dan is survived by one son, David M. Conner and Rebecca of Washington; one daughter, Denise Ann Heaster and Todd of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Michael Conner and Ashley, Brandon Conner, Timothy Heaster and Danielle Heaster; one great-grandson, J.D. Conner; two brothers, Paul “Glenn” Conner and Linda of Reedsville, and Gary D. Conner and Karen of Kingwood; one sister, Josephine “Jo” Conner of Reedsville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Davis Conner in March of 1998; two sons, Daniel L. Conner and Darin D. Conner; two brothers, William “Bill” Conner and Leland Conner; and three sisters, Hazel Arnold, Wilma Eaylen and Ruby Heckert.
A private family viewing will be held at the Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Avenue, Newburg. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood.
Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Kingwood, where full military honors will be accorded by Preston County Honor Guard and U.S. Marine Honor Guard.
