He was born August 24, 1939, in Albright, a son of the late Walter D. and Glenna Thomas Smith.

Nelson has several nieces and nephews, who hold so many fond memories of their Uncle Nelson as well as members of Judy’s family, who consider him a part of their families, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Nelson was a graduate of Bruceton Mills High School and enlisted into the U.S. Air Force immediately after graduation. He retired from the U.S. Air Force May 1970 and continued his career as an electronic equipment specialist, Simulated Systems Department at Cherry Point MCAS, N.C. until he retired March 31, 1998.
Nelson did many things throughout his life; he was an avid golfer, but his love for the ocean, fishing and captain of his own boats gave not only he and Judy, but both of their families many adventures and fun stories, while also catching big fish and winning tournaments at Atlantic Beach, N.C. He and Judy were blessed to have lived on the beach and near the ocean during their younger years and traveled to many places in this country, often sharing these adventures with family members and close friends. To be sure, he and Judy had a full and blessed life together.
Nelson was also the best handyman and nicest, friendliest guy you’d ever want to meet.
A private celebration of life will be held for Nelson at a later date.
