Democrat incumbent Mark Musick said believes the county’s voters took the past 12 years into account Tuesday when they returned him to the Monongalia County Assessor’s Office.
Musick defeated Republican challenger, and former assessor’s office employee, Rich Jacobs 24,059 to 15,598.
Musick recalled the assessor’s office was perennially out of compliance and relying heavily on a third-party contractor when he was first elected in 2012.
“I’ve had people come up to me and say they support me for what we’ve done over the last 12 years – from what we came into to where we’re at today. They’re pleased with that,” he told The Dominion Post. “And I feel good about that, personally. It makes me feel like what we’ve done over the last 12 years, tonight showed me that’s paid off. I’m honored they’ve elected me back for another term.”
This was Musick’s first challenged race since he defeated Kent Pauley in 2012.
“It was a good race,” Jacobs said. “I wish Mark the best in what he does. Just be an honest man.”
Musick said he’s appreciative of everyone who came out to vote.
“It’s just an honor. It’s an honor to serve the taxpayers in this role again.”
