Robert Donald Martin

Robert Donald Martin, affectionately known as Bob, was a beacon of genuine friendship and heartfelt kindness. Born November 13, 1929, in Morgantown, he departed this world peacefully in his Westover home Friday, November 1, 2024, surrounded by the memories of his cherished loved ones.
Bob’s early years in Morgantown laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work and dedication. He turned his talents into a fulfilling 41-year career as a machinist at the Auto Parts Company on University Avenue before serving another two decades at Swanson Industries.
Bob’s skilled hands and sharp intellect were not the only gifts he shared-his spirit of fraternity was evident through his engagement with colleagues and associations over the years.
Family members who had predeceased him include his beloved wife, Monna Martin; his dear sisters, Genevive Mason and Vivian Hoskins; and an infant brother. They now welcome him into eternal rest and reunion.
Uncle Bob had no children, but he and his family lived across the street from Westover Grade School, and with an open-door policy, were instrumental in the lives of many, many families and students.
Uncle Bob, for many years, had a special relationship with his nephew, Terry Hoskins, and they spent a lot of quality time together. Thank you, Uncle Bob.
Bob’s very special nurse, Dolores Choma, provided excellent 24/7 homecare of Uncle Bob and with the assistance of the Amedisys Hospice Group, Bob was comfortable at home when he passed.
To everyone he met, Bob was a very special individual, celebrated for his ability to be a gentle, loving, and kind presence in any circumstance. Remembered as a wonderful example of listening, his honesty and respect touched many lives. He truly embodied the ethos of speaking no ill, living a life so profoundly positive that those who knew him were forever changed. Bob Martin’s legacy of warmth will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Friends may gather from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, in McCulla Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, November 6, with Pastor Kevin Cain officiating. Bob will be laid to rest beside his wife at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
